MAC Liverpool Buys! ♥

What are your favourite MAC products? I was recently in Liverpool and took advantage of my Pro discount. I get one in Dublin too, but the extra 5% stupidly seemed like an extra 50. Haha! I'm all for topping up my kit, it's an essential part of Makeup Artistry and will need to top up on bits that I've ran out of every couple of months if not weeks. I'm due one now, eeek! Though when I'm away, I really like to embrace my freedom and treat myself, so I bought a few new additions for my kit.

Every time I enter a makeup counter, or any shop in general, I suddenly 'need' things that never originally crossed my mind. When I saw these few things, I couldn't resist.

                                     MAC Lipstick 'Diva'

I've seen a few Makeup Artists that I know sporting this shade over Winter and I was never really intrigued, until I saw it in person. It's a perfect Winter colour and teamed up with the right lipliner works wonderfully. It's very bold though, I recommend a neutral eye to accompany it. Do whatever works for you though!

MAC Pro Longwear Lipliner 'Bespoken For'This is what I used to accompany my 'Diva' lipstick recently. I applied them both on the spur of the moment before heading out one night. I was wearing very little eye makeup so I figured it would work well. I'm still unsure if a dark lip suits me though! This isn't the best photo and as you may have guessed wasn't intended for my blog! Haha. Lip liner from the Pro Longwear range is a must! It lasts oh so long and needs to be removed with a lot of force. Retails at €20.00

                 MAC Lipliner 'Boldly Bare'

I'm really happy that I bought this lipliner. I'm notorious for my nude lips on 98% of my clients and this is the perfect one for them. It's a really light nude, slightly peach colour so it won't limit you to colder shades. Here's a sample photo of it used.

                                                                                    MAC Pigment 'Coppersparkle'

I am a magpie when it comes to copper and bronze. These are my colours that I just can't resist! I never even use half of them. They work so well on blue eyes and I suppose that because my eyes are blue it's an extra attraction as it wouldn't just be used for the kit. I decided to test it out for the first time on New Years Eve. Being honest, I'm not the best with pigment and I hardly ever use it because I'm awful at applying it and feel it never shows true. I decided to scrap the usual 'Duraline' or mixing mediums and went straight into Duo Glue. I dabbed a cotton bud in Duo, then into the pigment. I then dabbed it on my lid repeatedly. I didn't finish there of course. I added some INGLOT glitter over it to finish it off. I don't filter my work but any photos of little old me need it - trust me! Haha

INGLOT Gel Liner & Duraline.. MUST HAVE! ♥

If there is one staple brand in my kit, it is INGLOT Cosmetics. I am so happy that I've discovered INGLOT (The brand is in capitals, I swear I'm not shouting! Haha). It's a luxury makeup brand without the designer pricetag. The eyeshadow pans are huge, highly pigmented and such good value for money. I could go on and on, but I won't... on this occasion!

I just thought I would do up a quick post for you about my pure favourites...

Gel Eyeliner #77 & Duraline

I don't think I've ever seen such a range of gel eyeliners as I have in INGLOT. They have every colour under the sun that I'm yet to experiment with, even white! They are all so creamy and multipurpose. You can use a black one for your eyeliner, a brown one for your eyebrows, a shimmery one for your eyelids, and a white one to get creative with around your eyes! Never before have I experienced a gel liner that glides on as effortlessly as INGLOT's. Oh, and it's waterproof, which means it can be used in the waterline too! It doesn't dry up as fast as the other ones I have tried, but let's be honest - they all do! Retails at €15

Sometimes you'd think 'What's the point?' but this is where 'Duraline' comes in. 'Duraline' is a liquid formula specifically designed by INGLOT to moisten eyeshadows, turning them into eyeliners and keeping gel products wet. Without it, I'd be lost! Retails at €12

I, myself, would go through a typical 'Duraline' maybe every 6 - 8 weeks, though I use it pretty much every day - multiple times a day. So for your average Joe who wouldn't be applying winged liner on a regular basis, it would last that little bit longer. Saying that, my gel eyeliners will last me anywhere from 6 months to a year, if not more. They really really do last. Now that I'm here, I use INGLOT every single day in my kit and not one of my eyeshadows has ever emptied. Really good value for money! 

To apply my wonderful INGLOT products, I use my favourite eyeliner brush - MAC Cosmetics #263 brush. Super skinny and super firm for maximum control!

NIMA Brush - Full Product Review!!!

Hey guys, guess who's back to blogging! I really did miss it. I have been absolutely swamped with tonnes of makeovers on a daily basis that blogging has been on the bottom of my to-do list, but now that Debs season has come and gone, I feel it's time to start bringing you guys some great product reviews on a regular basis to get you through the winter months. So sit back with a cuppa' and enjoy!

NIMA Brush are an Irish makeup brush company dedicated to Makeup Artists and lovers alike, aiming to bring you top quality products at affordable prices. And who better than to bring out a brush company than a Makeup Artist herself? Niamh Martin founded NIMA after working in the industry for over 10 years!

Okay, so let's get started. Firstly, how beautiful are these brushes? It's very rare that the word 'beautiful' would come to mind when faced with a makeup brush, but the colours of the NIMA brushes are what make their appearance so unique and girly. The copper handles are from 'The Elite Collection' whereas their duck-egg blue brushes are from their new exclusive 'The Artistic Collection' - even the name is swanky! . Another thing unique to NIMA is that none of the newer brushes are numbered, but named after girls! Already, I'm loving them!

Round Head Kabuki (left)
I absolutely love these brushes for blending flawless foundation onto my clients skin. What's great about the round, subtle edges is that you're not left with any marks or lines on the skin, as a typical flat foundation brush would leave you. Therefore, minimal time, minimal effort.

Whenever you hear the name 'Kabuki brush' this is what they're typically best known as - a flat head with an outter cone shape. A lot of my clients prefer the flat head, whereas I'm used to the rounded one. It's all about preference. This brush has a slightly bigger face compared to the round one, so will cover more surface area faster.

Small Duo Fibre

I love Duo Fibre brushes. It does exactly what it says on the tin. They're made from multiple fibres to create the best and softest finish possible. Another thing I love about them is that they're usually great for multi-purpose use. I would personally best use NIMA's Small Duo Fibre brush for highlighting the cheekbones, tips of the nose, cupids bow, etc.

Another great use would be for concealing the under eyes, or eyeshadow blending; once all of your product has been applied upon the eye, you could blend with your small duo fibre really lightly for a flawless finish on that smokey eye! I tested this out on my Debs clients today and they almost all say "That brush is so soft!" Success!

The Artistic Collection

The Erin 

I own a few of these babies in my kit, and more than once I've been asked by clients 'What is that brush for?' and unless you're a Makeup Artist, it can be unlikely that you're in the know. This fan brush is also multi-purpose. When I was studying in college, we were told it was to remove any excess brush hairs from the face after the makeup application - which is great. I always hate finishing a makeover, looking back at my photos and realizing that I've left my client with a hairy face! Oops! Even worse is trying to pick it off with a cotton bud or something teeny tiny. A simple swoop of the 'Erin; brush will remove any brushes without causing the client or yourself discomfort. 

Although that's what we initially learned in college, I've recently found that these fan brushes are typically used for applying highlighter. Simply dab the 'Erin' into your highlighter and gently glide it along the areas of the face you wish to highlight. A lot of my clients ask me what brushes they'd use for highlighter, I'd recommend investing in one of these. It goes on a treat!

                                         The Tara

This is a must have in any makeup kit. Whether you prefer to use
it for contour or blush is completely up to you. I personally use a round brush for blush and stick to this fluffy angled one for contour. To use it as a contour brush, place the brush upon your cheekbones and tilt it to the side, having the longer side towards your ear. Gradually buff it down upon the cheekbones, towards your nose, adding a little product in every swoop if necessary. 

If you'd prefer to use it for blush, place it upon the apples of your cheeks, with the long side towards your nose, while gradually and gently working the product upon your cheekbones towards your ear. As I say, this is a must-have in any makeup lovers kit.

The Nichola

If there's anything I'm a sucker for, it's blending brushes. For some reason, I never seem to have enough. They are a staple to have as a Makeup Artist and I couldn't do my job without them. This type of blending brush is exactly up my alley. It's extremely soft and feels amazing blending upon your lid, yet it's also a little bit firm so you still have a certain level of control when applying your eyeshadow. If anybody is looking to slowly build on their brush collection, and are after a new blender - this bad boy is for you.

For Your Eyes Only - Eyelash Review

Recently, I was in with the AMAZING Eve-Ellen from 'For Your Eyes Only' in Portmarnock. My hometown, super handy. I'm heading on holidays on the 27th July and didn't want to deal with the stress of applying eyelashes every time I go out at night. I'm perfectly fine with applying them on other people, but jeez when it comes to myself I'm a glue-in-one-eye, glue-in-one-eyebrow, lash-on-my-cheek kinda lady! Eve-Ellen is one of my loyal clients & dozens of ladies pop into me with their fabulous lashes on, so I was only dying to treat myself when the time was right.

Upon it's beautiful garden setting lay the salon. I was seriously impressed with the décor. It felt extremely professional yet very cozy at the same time. We had a brief chat about what I wanted to go for before laying on the bed with a fluffy blanket with my eyes closed. 'Friends' was playing on the TV in the background, so it really made me feel at home. Eve-Ellen is always telling me about the amount of ladies that actually fall asleep during their lash application. So as you can imagine, super relaxing and pain free!

The lash application started & went like a breeze. I lay there having a chat before it was all over and I was asked to take a look. Though part of me didn't want to sit up, I wanted to lie in the coziness all day! As you can imagine, I was absolutely deee-lighted! She had listened to everything I had said & really took it on board. The Before & After photo speaks volumes in itself. It also makes me realize the amount of god darn freckles I have despite lathering myself in SPF50 on a daily basis. *cries*

As you can see, pretty amazing, right?

I had asked for them to be quite full and the tiniest bit more natural in the inner corners. I was absolutely delighted that it turned out as I had hoped. Eve-Ellen really is a perfectionist, and in my opinion one of the best in the business. As soon as I sat up, my lashes felt absolutely no different from my own. It barely even feels as though I'm wearing mascara. I can't see them, they're not irritating and I keep forgetting they're there!

Now, down to business... here come the prices!

Mascara Look €65.00

This look is really natural, but will still allow you to stand out from the crowd. With about 100 lashes applied directly to each eye, this type takes around 90 minutes.

Mink Luxury €95.00

This bad boy is what I got for myself. They're totally weightless, soft-to-touch & no need for mascara (duh!). They're the most natural looking lashes on the market. They last between 4 - 6 weeks. With about 200 lashes applied per eye, this type takes around 180 minutes. 

Refills €45.00

Refills are recommended every 4 weeks if you want to maintain your fuller-looking lashes. This takes 90 minutes.

So, there you have it. There is absolutely no pain involved when getting them applied - you barely even feel it! There is very little aftercare involved. You're advised not to shower for 24 hours after the application as the glue is still sensitive. Then regarding makeup, work away! Though be advised to use oil-free products on your face & eyes as that can loosen the glue. Piece of cake! I've already invested in the Simple Eye Makeup Remover for my holiers. Besides that, don't be a silly moo. If you really want to be bold and wear mascara (even though there really is no need), there are a few oil-free mascaras on the market, such as Maybelline Great Lash which I'm running out to buy tomorrow (just in case hehe).

**UPDATE - These lashes have been a breeze! They were nothing like I had expected. I've heard from many clients about how they found them awkward in the shower etc but I literally didn't even notice they were there. As they've gradually fallen out, you don't feel any pain or sensation at all. I've worn eye makeup three times with them (in two & a half months) so I think that really helped them stay as long as they did. How long, you ask? Well.... Update Photo!!!

Yes I did just take this as I'm writing the update and yes I am in bed with my onesie. I'd roughly say I have about 5-10 eyelashes left on each eye. Oh, the date? 1ST OCTOBER!!! I could not recommend these highly enough and I cannot wait to get them done again!**

Mememe Cosmetics Intro

Hey guys, so I'm gonna let you know about 'Mememe Cosmetics' - (find their Irish facebook page here, official UK facebook page here). While it's origin is from the UK, Mememe is slowly but surely making its way across the pond! They're wanting to bring you luxury products without the luxury price-tag. So, I was sent a few lovely items from Mememe last week. One of which was 'Angels with Halos Skin Illuminator' - two words; love it! There's nothing more that I love than a glow. About a year ago, I went through a bad acne breakout for a couple of months and was afraid to illuminate my face & make it dewy as my pores would show up. But now, a year and a lot of tablets later, my skin is perfect! Freckles that I dislike, yes... but spots, no! So now that my skin is clear, I've been really looking for new things to make my skin stand out & glow. I love the dewy look and there's a lot of products for luminosity I live by - so needless to say, I was delighted receiving this!

The shade I have is '3001'. It says on the box that you can wear it alone without any foundation to give your face a bit of a pick me up, or you can mix it in to give a healthy glow to add to your every day look! I took a little swatch and the light instantly reflected the iridescent colours. This particular shade is too dark for me to wear without any fake tan as I am as white as a ghost!

I squirted a little bit of this onto my hand and spread it out. This tiny little blob would have covered my face and more! It does have some level of coverage in it, so it's great to wear on 'No Makeup' (illusion) days!

Right photo - Foundation applied on top of the skin illuminator. Your best bet is to mix it up with your foundation and apply at once, but thought it'd be easier to show you this way! I'd recommend applying it with your fingers and act fast as it dries in quickly!

I also had a go of their non sticky 'Lip Glaze' - A quite highly strong pigmented gloss that, as it says on the tin, is non sticky! Yay! I personally find it quite hard to get my hands on non-sticky glosses! I never really buy big brand lipglosses, as I figure they all do the same thing really! Rich Colour Lip Glaze... €7.99

Dry, Chapped Lips?

I love Winter for one reason... Christmas! I love getting into the season and buying everybodys presents! Butttt.. that's pretty much it. I couldn't sleep at all last night because of the freezing temperature outside, I'm clearly a Summer person! And for more than one reason... Winter is one of the worst seasons for your skin!

Three letters sum is up.. D.R.Y
Dry skin & dry lips can help nobodys appearance, especially when trying to cover it up with makeup - it really doesn't work. The best thing to do is nip it in the bud. So, today I'll be focusing on dry lips & the remedies you can take, whether you want to follow the homeopathic street or if you're just so fed up & are willing to go to the local chemist, I should have a remedy for you!

Being a Makeup Artist, about 90% of the girls lips I do are cracked and dry with little crevices in them. In saying that, mine are too - guilty! So maybe your lips get dry, maybe they crack, or maybe they get so sore & dry that they become really red & itchy around your whole mouth. Either way, dry lips aren't fun! So let's focus on what we can do to help, while also discovering some of the myths around dry lips.

How to Prevent Dry Lips? Simple!

Stay hydrated - Drink plenty of water, eat plenty of foods with water in them. Stay hydrated to prevent drying lips & skin. (Easier said than done, I hate water! Oops)

Ongoing treatment - Use a chapped-lip treatment throughout the year instead of lip balms on a daily basis. Eg; Cymex, Carmex etc.

Keep your body nourished - Water is a given. But you need to make sure your body isn't defficiant in any B vitamins, iron or essential fatty acids (along with everything else). The lack of these essential components in the body can cause dry lips!

Alternative water - If you want to be extra sure your lips will stay nice and soft all year round, apply a warm damp facecloth to your lips & hold it for up to a minute to ensure that water gets into them that way.

Avoid perfumes & fragrances hitting the lips
Throw out old lip products

Avoid sun/wind - Sounds pretty impossible, oh wait, it is! Just kidding, use a scarf in winter to cover your mouth!

Don't smoke! - You shouldn't smoke anyway. Tut tut tut.

Put suncream/sunscreen on your lips before heading out in the sun

Never lick your lips! Don't bite the dry skin off either! - I am so guilty of this.

Myths about Dry Lips
There are many myths about dry lips that you may not even be aware of. The first one is maybe the most common action, whether we believe it helps or not -

Lick your lips to help moisten them - eeek! What a bad idea! If you're suffering from dry lips & looking for a way out, stop right now! The unconscious belief is that licking chapped lips will make them feel better. Even though, this gives you an initial moment of brief relief, it's affecting you long term - kind of like everything else bad in the world, right? Your mouth is full of digestive enzymes & once you spread them across your lips, you're only hindering the healing process and of course spreading bacteria. As soon as the moisture is evaporated, the pain is back! So, if you're guilty of this (isn't everyone?) then try your best to STOP!

The more lip balm, the better! - FALSE. What some lip balms & most lipglosses do are keep your lips forever moist, leaving them more vulnerable to this cold frosty weather. Think of it as putting oil on your skin in the Summer, then going and lying in the sun - you're going to get burnt! Also, many lipgloss', lip balms and lip glosses contain ingredients in them that are super drying to the lips. It's better to let your lips breathe, especially in this harsh weather. If you're a lipgloss addict, try a vegan brand, with no harsh chemicals.

Vaseline is the holy grail! - Emm, no! Surprisingly, vaseline can actually not be the best thing to use on your lips. Vaseline is made from the goop that comes from oil drills, so it's something you don't want too close to your mouth as you'll ingest little bits every day. Instead, use cocoa better or Burt's Bees Balm to moisten up dry lips.

Brushing your dry lips away - Ever hear of this, brushing your lips with an old toothbrush, until all of the dry skin is gone? I've read it on plenty of blogs and heard it from 'Beauty gurus'. What astounds me is 'Do you not have any common knowledge?' Obviously this is one of the worst things you can do. If it works for you (really?), that's great. Stick with it and don't take my advice. But if it sounds as ridiculous to you as it does to me, keep reading. Not only will this be painful, but it will without a doubt worsen your condition. (Can I say duh yet?) We all know that skin cells shed. When the skin on your lips isn't ready to come off yet and you force it to do so so abrasively, it may cause opening in the lips & lead to deeper, more painful injuries! Especially if you're using toothbrushes that aren't brand new, there's a million ingredients inside toothpaste that were designed for the teeth only, but even still I'm a bit sketchy about it! Tell me, when you have a scab, the first instinct is to pick it, right? But what do we all know happens - it grows right back! If your chapped lips are really getting you down & you'd like to remove them temporarily, then what you can do is the following...

The next time you're in the shower, scrub your body etc yada yada, the last thing you should do is take a facecloth with some triple anti-biotic ointment on it (once the humidity & steam has somewhat softened your lips), and gently rub your lips with it. Not only will it be a gentle, safe exfoliant but it will also get the antibiotic ointment in there, which will helps the lips too!

Treatment of Dry Lips

Do you prefer the homeopathic route? I do too! First I'll get into a little detailed 'how-to' about masks & exfoliants etc that you can make at home, before just writing one by one the items you can use to help keep your lips soft & moist.

Sugar Exfoliant - Exfoliating dead skincells off your lips will help restore their natural softness faster. Mix two teaspoons of sugar with about one teaspoon of honey, until it's a thick paste. Apply the paste to your lips using your fingers, then rub it in with your index finger for about one minute. Wash it off with lukewarm water. I also like to add a teaspoon or olive oil in, too!

Honey Moisturizer - Simple! Honey is a great moisturizer which also has healing & antibacterial properties to help treat your dry lips. All you have to do is apply pure honey straight to your lips, several times a day

Rose Petal Mask - Have a rose bush in your garden? No? Better go snipping from the neighbours then! If you have some time on your hands & want to really focus on natural beauty remedies, then I'd recommend this. Wash a handful of rose petals thoroughly in water. When that's done, soak the petals in milk for a few hours - or, if you're lactose intolerant - glycerin. Mash the petals up to a thick paste. Apply to your lips two/three times a day, and/or just before bed.


Coconut Oil - Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer that can help heal chapped lips. Simply apply pure coconut oil to your lips several times a day to ensure they stay moisturized. You can buy a jar of coconut oil in any health shop, or Asian shops around town. They use it in their cooking a lot so they usually have it handy. Olive oil & mustard oil are good too.


Aloe Vera - Everybody knows.should know about the healing qualities in aloe vera. Use a gal to apply to the lips daily. It has botha  healing & soothing factor. It may not taste great but the benefits are worth it! 

Cucumber - Simply apply cucumber slices to the lips until the juice is all over them. Leave on for 15 - 20 minutes. If you do this several times a day, it should keep them nice and moisturized & it will also help them heal faster.

I'd recommend for all of these masks & exfoliants, make a big (ish) batch & store in the fridge or the press, depending. That way, you can go back whenever you like to use it whenever you need. An extra thing you can do is buy little containers of each to bring around with you in your handbag.

Or, if you're really not bothered, head to the chemist and try something like Cymex, something for both cold sores & dry cracked lips. It controls infection, soothes tingling & pain while preventing/healing cracked lips.

Three Times Naked?

So, Urban Decay's Naked 3 has been confirmed to hit the shelves soon. Who's excited? I am a proud owner of Naked 2 and prefer it to the first edition by a mile! Below is a picture of Naked 1 VS Naked 2. I find Naked 2 to be a lot more wearable, I wouldn't go near the blue shades at the end of Naked 1 & I love how Naked 2 has a matte black to finish any smokey eye off.

My most used colour is definitely 'Half Baked', which is so popular it's in both! This toasty (or half toasted) golden is perfect for a base of a smokey. It fits perfectly with some blended out orange and matte brown in the corner. Below, a picture of a client who's makeup I did with 'Half Baked' as the perfect base. Her gorgeous big eyes helped the look come together too, of course!

Anyway, onto Naked 3.. & I think it's time for a sneak peak! 

The first thing you can automatically tell is the new peachy colour scheme. I'm not 100% certain on the new addition to the Naked family's release date - and although it would be a great Christmas gift (if released in Winter), I find that the colours really represent Spring & Summer more than anything. When you think of Summer makeup, you think of golden shades, you think of gorgeous peach & pink! There's not a lot of dark shades in there for any heavy Winter contouring, in my opinion. Saying that, Winter makeup is all about Sparkle, and the Naked 3 palette certainly delivers. With 9 shimmery, sparkly shades & only 3 matte - this upcoming palette is all about the bling factor!

Although it obtains lovely shades, I do find that the entire palette has the same wash of colours throughout. In saying that, I love pinky eyeshadows - I can't get enough. Especially pink sparkle, that's me to a T really. But, do I really want to buy a palette that retails at around €40 (Based on 1 & 2) that exhibits a lot of the same colours? It's a little hard to go back & forth between 1, 2 and 3 trying to compare features - so let's show all 3 together for a better, in depth, look!

Now, what I would personally LOVE to do is go into Debenhams with a little cosmetic spatula and scrape out all of that gorgeous new shade 'Dust', but I reckon that may be frowned upon...

So, going from left to right, let's talk about each shade individually!

'Strange' - It's as if 'Foxy' (Naked2) and 'Virgin' (Naked1) came together and had a baby (Hail the Virgin Irony). It was born with Foxy's matte finish, and Virgin's gorgeous colour! This is a perfect base.

'Dust' - More of a cooler pink than 'Sin' (Naked 1) and slightly lighter too. I personally am most excited about this colour.

'Burnout' - A gorgeous shimmery peach. Not really comparable to any other shade.

'Limit' - Although it's most comparable colour is Tease (Naked2), it's a lot lighter & is much more pink.

'Buzz' - Super new, super vibrant, super pink! Buzz has no competitor on the previous editions.

'Trick' - Gorgeous copper shade, this new edition can be compared to 'Chopper' (Naked2), although it is a lot more red, it's also a lot lighter than 'Toasted'. (Naked1)

'Nooner' - Definitely a similar shadow to 'Tease' (Naked2), although it appears a little more pinky and little less brown.

'Liar' - It may be compared to 'Toasted' (Naked1). Although, Liar is a lot more cool-toned compared to the gorgeous reddish tinted Toasted.

'Factory' - It's lighter than both Hustle (Naked1) and Busted. (Naked2)

'Mugshot' - Darker and cooler than Toasted (Naked1) and YDK.(Naked2)

'Darkside' - I can't find any comparable shades to this new edition - A cool toned brown with a little bit of sparkle, it appears!

'Blackheart' - Although a little comparable to Busted (Naked2), Blackheart appears much more sparkly, finishing off the new sparkly, shimmery collection nicely!

Now, hopefully that made things a little clearer. As you can see, a lot of the shadows can be compared to the previous editions - Naked 1 and Naked 2. Although, there are a lot of completely new shades to hit the collection! To conclude - It is a nice palette and I love how they're incorporating more pink. Although in my verdict, there's a little too much pink and not enough contrast! But hey, this is just my opinion. And if you love Spring-style makeup, sparkle & shimmer then this palette is definitely for you! I hope you liked my spur-of-the-moment review!
